Pune Metro To Run Every 5 Minutes During Peak Hours For Ganeshotsav

Pune Metro is set to increase peak-hour train frequency to five minutes during Ganeshotsav as ridership nears 2.80 lakh daily. Maha Metro will deploy all 33 three-coach rakes across both operational corridors.

Pune Metro ridership is nearing 2.80 lakh passengers a day, prompting Maha Metro to increase train frequency during peak hours for the upcoming Ganeshotsav.

Under the revised schedule, Metro services on both operational corridors will run at five-minute intervals, compared with the existing six-minute frequency. The move is aimed at handling the surge in passenger demand during the festival and reducing waiting times at stations.

Maha Metro currently operates around 554 trips every day across the Vanaz-Ramwadi and Pimpri Chinchwad-Swargate corridors. The higher frequency will add more trips, allowing the system to carry larger crowds during busy periods.

Maha Metro plans to put all 33 three-coach train rakes in its fleet into service. At present, 30 rakes are being operated regularly.

As part of the festival arrangement, 17 rakes will be assigned to the Vanaz-Ramwadi route, while 16 rakes will operate between Pimpri Chinchwad and Swargate. The additional deployment will provide greater carrying capacity and improve service frequency during peak travel periods.

The five-minute frequency will apply during peak hours, when passenger demand is at its highest. During non-peak periods, trains will continue to run at the existing 10-minute interval.
